The ubiquitous mobile phone. One can't imagine life without it now. Although there are a few Luddites and non-conformists, most would agree it is a godsend. Some would even go to the extent of saying it's the best thing since sliced bread. While the Karnataka health minister argues that it is a health hazard, the education minister feels cellphones are the root of all distractions. He has even gone a step further and banned it for Plus 2 students on campus.
Now let us remeber many other states had done the same before and many others are seriously thinking of the same now !

There have been umpteen claims of the ill-effects of the use of cellphones like impotency, brain damage, effects on the heart and so on. However, none of these claims have been empirically proven.

Cracking the whip on parents too is stretching it a bit far as most of them want their wards to own a cellphone. Its convenience outweighs the perceived risks, they feel.

Is the ban on school children using cellphones justified?
What about such a ban in colleges too ????

Ban in colleges is really stupid. Students who are 20 to 22 years of age are the future of our country. with in 4 or 5 years they are the ones who should get married and have children. They are the ones to lead this country. If we dont trust them with mobiles phones, how are we going to trust them as leaders of this country.

well ... if its so .. i'm agrreing with u !!
in colgs they shud nt ban mobs !!
but for school children .. i dont think mobs are necessary
atleast till HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL its not needed at all !!

Yep I agree with you that mobile phones ought to be banned at school level,atleast till high school level.
But whereas mobile are to be allowed in colleges as college student's are matured enough to use mobile phones and know about the pros and cons of using a mobile phone.

What have you to say about the misuse of mobile phones by the college students,do u think its right?

At school level the mobile phones have to be strictly banned.
At colleges mobile phones can be allowed, provided the use of camera embedded phone's are banned.

At school level or in other words to children below the age of 16yrs is a reasonable decision.....bt decieding to effect the ban to the college students is absolutely rubbish and not at all acceptable......

I mean the college students are the future of the world as KENNEY rightly said...is a very weak diecision made on the part of d governments....Itz not going to work at all.....

So the best possible way to effect the ban is to just forget about banning it....coz chldren wil stll use it in d years to cum.....tiz bin a part of our life.....

usage of the phone does not comes into the case of maturity because it is only a device to communicaate between two. eventhough it consist of more facilities communication is the primary purpose. the usage of the phone which
have been bought by parents to the students is only to talk to them. its only my openion. if they have to use it more he should ^beer its expence. and also students distant from the parents have to be in contact so for them mobi is good. <else the complete consentration of the students will be on phone not on their primary purpose of studying. silly chats with the friends will consume lot of time of the studnts. i'll say inside the college school mobile phones should be prohibited.

wel i totally agree with AMBU SELVAM......mobile is very essential coz as he very clearly mentioned if a busy parent wants to get in touch with his/her son or daughter den MOBILES are essential......

MOBILES FOR MATURED ADULTS...children must not b allowed to use em!!

thats right ..! youth are the future of this country.>! it is awful to ban mobile in campus..! in this x-generation even the person below proverty line has his own mobile,.....! it has become the part of our life..!

with mobile it is easy to get touch wid others who r distant from us .....!
it helps to avoid the frequent visit at internet cafes...!!... anything can be passed over within seconds thru sms..!! .

but it is needed to use it within a limit.!

hmmm.....very valid point made by kevin ova here....mobile phones are needed if u wanna contact someone urgenlty....or if u wanna call some of ur near n dear one's in different corners of d globe...itz nt alwyz possible to talk to these people online...so mobile phones are d best....

bt den it shud b banned until school level is what i personally think

Just anything could be misused.
The students must understand and act accordingly.
Banning alone, wont prevent the so-called misuse.

Acording to me it should be BAN upto high school coz they don't have the need of it, they must maintain discipline as well as decorum of the institution.....
